It probably caught up with us all.
There are those who have heard, those who read about it, those who are trying to live a minimalist and those who manage to live with this philosophy.
Minimization of life, that is, getting rid of the excess, which is piling up in our homes as"will be useful"that really are not necessary.
But it is not only getting rid of things.
It is also a philosophy of life without hurry, life, which pursues a thing and the most important aspect of it is peace-slow life that makes us slow down, look at life and think:
"Minimalism is a big cleanup and search for simplicity at the beginning of the material, also in the area of the body, then the mind, and finally in relationships with other people.
You start ordering environment-disposing wider clutter and excess, you learn to savings, better use of existing resources and financial management.
You reduce the number of duties and activities in the schedule. You are browsing to your body, wondering if you've done everything for his best mood and appearance, to serve you for years.
Then you give the analysis of your desires and dreams. "
The quotation comes from the excellent book about minimalism "Minimalism in Polish or how to make life simpler," Anna Mularczyk-Meyer.I am not sure if you can find this book in english, but you can find"The joy of less:A minimalist guide to declutter, organize, and simplify"by Francine Jay.
I do not need a new phone because the old still running, the new auto-what, just to take a loan and show up your friends,I live without TV longer than 6 months and ... I CAN.
That's when I do not need so many things why to chase after 12 hours at work and I come home so tired that when I have a day off I do not want to move even a finger.
And how to us came the fashion for minimalist life?
Is this a new philosophy of life?
Well,NO!!!
Although minimalism is opposition to the excessive consumerism that is buying(because I must have it, because what others think, because it will take me by the poor)which slowed down the run of life, escape from the trap of "rat race", however, this lifestyle has deep roots in ancient times.
Socrates said: "I love to explore, without a lot of things I'm perfectly happy" or "There are so many things that I do not need," reportedly said that when his disciples asked why so much like going to the market when nothing on it buys .
Let us remember that Socrates lived between 470-399 BC , which is already ruled consumerism and some have tried to oppose it.
Of course, Rome liked than "collect Greek thing" and process sometimes on his own, an example can be here: the gods names, myths and other (if you know more examples send me,please).
And here is the Greek word:
μινιμαλισμός
minimalismós
It was transformed into Latin
de minimis, that is, a small amount of things, minimum.
de minimis, that is a few things, minimum. And we started to say, such as:
"de minimis non curat preator"-praetor is not concerned with trifles;
"de minimis non curat lex"- the law does not deal with trifles;
You could go ahead and shout:"A maximis ad minima"-from the largest to the smallest.
I was just contemplating the word we can also say:"Carpe diem"-enjoy the moment.
Operative part derived from the poetry of Horace:
"Seize the day, because no one would know what future holds in store for the gods ...".
And here is where I live (Great Britain), you can say:"Seize the moment because you never know when it rains :)))
"Quoniam subito dum pluit numquam Carpe"
The opposite word to a minimum is maximum.
And what I really liked is that when I tried to find a word on the web, it turned out that it is not only the biggest or the best but is also the name (why not! after all, everyone wanted to be a fighter, everybody want to be Maximus-surely you remember the movie "Gladiator" and the main character).
Well, we fell apart Maximus ranging from Roman generals, even the Greek philosophers and scholars(we can find even Muslim philosopher Ibn Arabi called Dr Maximus)Christian saints, bishops, patriarchs.
You see, no one wants to be a mini only maxi.
Maximae fortunae minime crede!
The greatest happiness least believe.
Nolo volo maximus ad minima
I would not want the biggest to the smallest.
